the female is about 6 inches and the male is about 7 inches. the male is missing an eye. and he just got into a pretty intense fight with my 9 inch fat jack dempsey... what should i do? i don't really have room to put them anywhere else...

Theyve paired up and the male is already picking fights?
Get to Lowes/Home Depot and buy some egg crate and divide the tank, separating them from the other tankmates...and probably best to separate the pair as well, for now until you can figure out what youre going to do.
Seems like if you had a male and female dovii in 1 tank, youd know that they were going to eventually pair up and be prepared for it.
No offense, but QUIT buying fish you dont have room for...or dont know how to house properly. I know its hard and you want some of everything you see, but with larger cichlids, its not a casualty free learning experience.
Good luck and divide them up asap, or remove the male, even though I dont think that will matter for the evening. Theyre already in "bonding mode".
