I got them when they were about 2 inches, now the male is 7inches and the female is about 5. I also was wondering they have layed eggs and it isn't the first time, its about the 5th time, but I have had no success in having the eggs hatch, I think the female ate them all I don't know though. Any ideas on how I can have the eggs hatched? Should I removed the female?

I would watch to see if one is more protective of the eggs.. then take other one who not out.

What color are the eggs? Fertile eggs will be olive and bad eggs will turn lighter or white. Sometimes they take many attempts to get it right, sometimes they do it right away. No way to know.

After the male fertilizes the eggs take the whole rock with the eggs on it and place it in a 10 gal tank with a small sponge filter (seed it with some media from your tank filter). Then add 8 drops of methylene blue per gallon and a gentle airstone just below the rock so that water flows through the eggs. With temperature at ~81 degrees they will hatch in 2-3 days.

It should look like this

As soon as you have wrigglers you can start doing 20% daily water changes using the proper dechlorinator. Do not dose methylene blue again, the water will slowly become clear.

When the wrigglers start swimming you can start feeding them powdered flakes, liquid fry food, hatched brine shrimp, daphnia, etc.

Keep them in that tank until they're big enough so that you can sell them or use as feeders for other fish.

OK thanks you a lot, its about 5th or 6th time they have hatched eggs but no success. The eggs are like a faded orange color not olive green, but not white either. So are you saying that I should remove the rock where the eggs are layed? and not let the GTs take care of them?

actually gt's are some of the worst parents you can ask many people on here... they dont protect the fry when they hatch they just let them go free...

Well if you want to keep the fry and maximize survival rate to sell to a LFS/use as feeders for other tanks/or whatever... then take them out.

Be careful when taking the rock out as they will bite, shake, dart, bite again, and try their best to kill your hand lol. It can result in a very angry parent splashing on the floor of your room.

If you just wanna watch GT breeding behavior then leave the rock in there, they will get it right sooner or later unless your male is sterile, which is rare among non-hybrids, but possible. Be warned though most of the fry will end up dying one way or another, it's very rare to have surviving fry become adult when left in display tanks unless your green terrors are the only fish in there, they have plenty of space and you cover the filter intakes with sponges, etc.

In my case they either: 1. get eaten by tankmates as soon as they become free swimming, 2. get sucked and killed by filters, 3. get eaten by their own parents when they're ready to breed again.

You can also wait till they are wigglers and suck them all at once from the hole in the substrate with a gravel vacuum. This is better if you want to let the mom do the job of fanning the eggs and eating the bad ones, but you would have to wait til they get it right and the eggs hatch, first.

Wow I see thanks alot, and they are the only ones living in this tank and also one small pleco thats it.
