I'm out of town till Saturday, but my wife called yesterday and said the tank broke. The front glass broke in 2 places. The bottom completely shattered. The back glass broke in 2 places as well. I recently checked it for level and it was almost perfect. We bought the tank used and it had a small chip in one of the corners which is where one of the cracks started. I guess maybe it was that weak and started the chain reaction. It was up at the top of the aquarium though. My wife was in another room and said it sounded like 4 gun shots going off in a row. At first she thought someone had gotten in the house, but then heard the water pouring out.

I'm not exactly sure what caused the failure. We're waiting to find out if our homeowners insurance will cover the damages. I don't know if I'll replace it. All the fish were saved though and we'll be taking most to the lfs Saturday, so they can find homes.

Ohhh man, that's awful. What floor? Hopefully your insurance covers. This nightmare is why my tanks are in my garage...

Sorry for your bad luck.

Main floor. There's a basement under. I had floor jacks under to keep the tank level and support the weight. My pool table is in the basement and got soaked, so it is ruined as well.

Sorry to hear. Don't give up. How long have you had the tank?

holy cow. im so sorry to hear that. That sounds like a nightmare. My biggest tank is 55g but i cant imagine that water damage. good luck bro

Thanks. I bought in November and have had it running since February. The insurance says the won't pay because it was a manufacturing defect that caused the tank to fail. They didn't even have anyone come and look at it, so I'm arguing with them now. I was thinking of replacing it with a new acrylic tank. My wife says she doesn't know if she wants to replace it or at least not for a few years. Hopefully I can change her mind. I guess she was there when it happened, so she feels a little differently.
