Just thought id finally post and share my setup in my room. Just as inspiration to all the young fish keepers. I started real young about 14 keeping fish and over the years of collecting fish and tanks with little income ive reached about 470 gallons of water in my bedroom. Here are pictures and a little info on each setup.
Here is my 220 glass aquarium at 7X2X2. Currently it has a 27" Silver aro, 16" Redtail/Shovel nose catfish, and 9 year old albino oscar. At one time i had 13 fish in the tank, 3 silver aros, 2' albino cat, oscars, p fish, a gar, and so on. All died from internal pirasite but the oscar and aros. Oscar has looked like it has been dead for years but just keeps hanging out. I originally made the stand from 4x4s and 2X6" but since i painted room i build a canopy, inclosed the sides, added trim along tank and stand, DIY wetdry,UV sterilizer, fluidized bed filter and fridge under it. I dont keep anything in the tank because all the different large fish i have kept destroy everything, you can see it broke the orginal air bubble i setup and also cracked the bulkhead that held my orginal return from the bottom of the tank. Now its pluged and i use a 1" from the outside. I also used different kinds of soda and beer caps to boarder the stand. The best part about this tank is that its island style, you can walk around it and view from either side. I used to have my bed along side it.
I have a powerhead that pumps up to this UVsterilizer above that tank on the canopy, then it heads into the fluidized bed filter and back into the tank. This two units seems to really keep my tank water clear and i hope clean. FBF has been running for i believe a month and a half now. Took some time to get bacteria going.
Luckly when i orginially built my first stand it was the perfect heigth to fit this fridge under the tank. It fit in perfect when i inclosed the stand. I put the tank in my room before i finished the cannopy and trim on the tank so the black trim that runs along the stand also should go up along the fridge and back down and around the stand but i can't complete till i empty the tank and can nail on the trim without the rug under the stand getting in the way. The fridge doesn't affect the tank temp or do anything to the stand.
Here is a side view of the corner of my room. What u see when u walk in the door way. I built that black stand out of 2X4s and high gloss black enamel paint. Its strong enough to hold the 20 on the bottom with a african lungfish, 40 gallon, 2 ten gallon tanks holding geckos, and it had a 10 gallon full of water next to one of the gecko tanks last week. Cheap, strong and easy to organize. The 5 gallon on the floor is hooked up to an air pump to airate(not sure how to spell that)all the water i add to the tank. And i run that water through a dual carbon house filter fisrt.
Here is the double stack 80s. I bought them along time ago with a friend. Set it up real cheap and fast to hold my fish. I did'nt use all the bulkheads and i have the top draining into the bottom. But since i keep small fish and i have a decent DIY wet/dry under thank it stays very clean. There is a leichardti in the top 80. An African tiger fish, sabertooth tertra, marble catfish, south american lungfish, rapheal catfish and ornate bichir in the bottom 80.
When i first setup all 6 of my different tanks plus another hex in my corner and a pond outside. I had way to many air pumps running. So i bought this 8 port air pump off ebay and it work great. I used black tubing and hardline to pipe to every single one of my tanks and also extra lines left over for airating water i add to the tank and for tanks that need extra air. Ive had the pump for over a year now and only had to clean the filter once when it got clogged. Really strong and adjustable, if anyone is interested just send me a pm and ill pull up the info for you.
The rest are just pictures of my fish. This post is deticated to all the young fisk keepers with low income and big dreams. I build all my setups myself with the knowledge ive gained from friends, fish stores, and mfk. Many of my expensive fish, supplies and tanks were found on mfk, lfs, ebay, classifieds and through friends. Also keep your head up when fish die, they do for many many reason some out of your hands. MFK for life!!!
Almost done building building a complete setup for this 250 if anyone wants to buy it.
