they usually eat live rosies or fat heads. so for the hell of it i tried to drop a few frozen silverside in the tank. they gave it a good eye and then hit them but dropped them right away. id love to get them on frozen or fresh shrimp or smelt. even the silverside would be ok.

what should i try next?

hi, try smaller ones. took mine almost a month of starving to finally eat them.

good luck!

hmm. a month of no eating. its not that important to get them off live. im definately not starving them for a month.

i will try some smaller ones. see how that works.

I feel the same way. Starving seems very cruel to me, thats why all of my preds still and allways will eat live.

But it doesn't seem to hurt them because people do it all the time and even longer than a month.

I found mine prefer bigger ones. Just cause there lazy and dont wanna chase a small fast one.Still is amazing to see them eat a fish almost half there length.

I used a fishing line & tied one end to stick, the other end poke thru tail of silverside & knot it. when my tat grabbed it, i gave it a couple of tugs before it broke thru did that a couple time until tat got used to taking silversides. but then again it was 6"
