Well ordered 3 rams Monday and they r here. Took my ruby red back to the lfs because he's a violent prick. Still have one african in with the rams but he's going back today also. He picks on them to much. These little guys are awesome and from the looks of it I may have got 2 females and a male. Just going off the longer fins on one who has no crimson color belly and the other 2 have a crimson belly and fins aren't as long. The store also has 6 firemouths about 1 inch long. Since I put the rams n about 12 hrs ago now. Would it be ok to add 2 firemouths? Or should I wait a week or so. Also the tank is a 30 long. With 2 firemouths and 3 blue rams will that be overstocked? I do a weekly 40 or so % waterchange. Right now ammonia is at 0 ppm. Nitrites are at 0 ppm. Ph is around 7.6 to 7.8. And if that's not over stocked how many more rams could I add. Considering there small adult size I figured a shoal of 6 total and 2 firemouths would make for a really nice tank but lf opinions

ohhh ohh picts?

And not that I act like I know anything worth a damn BUT,

I did notice that the ram was perfering a 5.0 PH while the firemouth was more of a 7-7.5 PH....thats what I read anyways..not sure if thats a big enough swing to make a significant change in overall health etc. if you ran a mid PH of say 6.

Nyways lov 2 see the rams!

And yeah I'm going to lower my ph a bit after I drop this african back off at the lfs. I've heard rams and fms go good together dispite there water req being a little different. I would just do a big shoal of 15 or so rams but firemouths r just nice looking addition. When its all said and done I hope to have 3 tanks up and running. One with the rams and firemouths. One with a black rhom pirahna and one with a shoal of exodons. If I can't find exodons at the lfs or they can't order them I will just give the fms there own tank.

Definitely would be a nice 3 tank set up!!

Hopefully we are picking up a 55g today, and my butterfly and peakcock chilids are both going to be moved over to it along with this over sized pleco.

would def. advise on keeping Ph around 6-6.5 for Rams, but certainly on the acid side of neutral ... Rams aren't really schooling fish, and 15 rams in a 30G would be kinda nutty ... but it would be great for two pairs, or 2 males and 4 females, something like that ...

I wouldn't mix FMs and Rams unless it was in a bigger tank, but that's me ...

I love blue rams, i bought two recently, and friday i got an order of 6 coming in, but i may only buy 1 blue and two gold rams. but overall beautiful fish when they get there colors.
