one of my uaru A. is acting strangely. if i wasnt so sure they are too young i would say it was blatant breeding behaviour. guarding a small pit not going for an all out attack but butting the loaches and other fish away except the other uaru. going dark like its getting really pissed off when the loaches keep coming near the pit.
the pit was made by me when i put some plants in and forgot to smooth out the gravel again so they havent made that.
i was thinking of getting another 2 uaru but if they are showing breeding behaviour then something a little more robust may be in order as i think another 2 small uaru would probably be in for a rough time.

what do you guys think, 2 more uaru?

is this breeding behaviour or are they too young as i suspect?

would something more robust like a FM, oscar, severum be more compatible with breeding uaru?

the new addition(s) would be going in with whats in my signature. i will be keeping them in the 5x2x2 if this is breeding behaviour as it will no doubt get worse as they get bigger.
many thanks guys:)

I doubt its about to spawn. Mine also do that. I have one that made its own pit and doesnt move from it, and chases every one else away. my other uaru just swim around the whole tank. I think it may just be a little territory that its protecting.

it is not breeding.... Uaru take a very long time to become sexually mature. 12-18 months.

you might want to add 1 more uaru to the tank but 2 would be pushing it in a 4x2

joey i love you avatar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a feeling that it wasnt breeding behaviour but uaru are pretty new to me so I thought i would ask. i thought about keeping them in the 5x2x2 if this aggro increases which i may do anyway and get another 2 uaru.
OR can you suggest another 6"+ cichlid to put in with my signature. nothing over 12" really as i want them to have breathing space. ithought about a FM as im having no luck finding healthy sevs where i am, the ones i can get arent looking so hot.
many thanks

i think you would be better off adding another uaru rather than trying something diffrent.

ok lads and lasses. decision is made and 2 more uaru win in the 150. im really pleased with the 2 i have so with more i hope they will become even more interesting, possibly even a pair :D
the acaras colours should set a nice contrast against the uaru.
thanks for the help all its much appreciated. will pm you barley pop if i have more questions if you dont mind.
thanks again guys :)
