Hey thought I would kinda make a diary type thing of my project to get my 300 gallon set up.

So far I have finished my sump although I need some more scrubby's for it and put the fitting's in the top of the lid when I get the tank on the stand.

I am working on the stand and should have that done tomarrow.

I'm not sure I understand what your sump is doing. It looks like you have your bio area divided by a piece of glass for some reason but I'm not sure what that reason is. I'm guessing that you are planning on having two drains from the tank, each entering one side of the scrubbie/bio ball chamber?

well i kinda like the divided bio-area, that way you could clean half the scrubbies and leave the other half for next time, seems like a good way to be sure and not disturb the bacteria, not sure if thats what you are doing, but i like it.

yes there are 2 sides I will be placing mechanical filtration on top as well and there will be 2 lines going in one on each side I did this for the reason of cleaning one side if need be and because I wanted allot of area and I don't feel that I could effectivly get water dispursed to all the media had I just had one line going in to all that media. I also plan on putting 2500-3k gallon/hr through this sump.

Do your dividers for the bio area go all the way to the top of the sump? If so when you mech filtration gets clogged on top of the bio area the water will overflow onto the floor rather back into the sump....

why would yall want to clean your scrubbies? Thats like washing your gravel when using a UGF.

No and there is a lid I made to fit on top to keep any splashing down as well.

well heres the deal with that

1. you never know why you might wanna be able to take thing apart easily inthe future so i designed every thing to pull right out.

2. I saw allot of sumps built with a media chamber like 18-24" wide and roughly the same long. They then jammed one input line into the center. IMO I don't think they are getting even and full coverage of all media. My thoughts were that if I made 2 chambers witht he same mass as 1 chamber and used 2 incomming lines I could get a good coverage of all media and maximize it's effectivness.

3. By having 2 lines come into the sump I can deliver more water thus filtering more water ( I plan on doing 2500-3k gph and hour)

4. as far as cleraning the scrubbies they may need it after years of use. Ive seen old sumps that looked pretty cruddy but cleaning them wouldnt be ona regular basis

OK I just got the back ground done. I think it turned out decent it's not as great as I wanted but certainly nice. If you close in the pic you can see a black hole thats the intake for the fx5 and the return is in the top right corner.

I also have got the stand done and finished using oak and installed an FX5

Still need to get sand, pump and a UV filter then do the plumbing and I'm ready for fish then I need to build the canopy and get one more light
