I've been getting hassled by a couple MFKers to post my 33 gallon I've been working on for a couple months. This is my "serious" planted tank and I've really put a lot of research and work in it. Hopefully it pays off. ;)

The basic stats for this tank are as follows:
-Tank: 33 gallon, which is a really short 55 gallon. 48" length by 12" width by 12" height.
-Equipment: Filtered by a Rena XP3 (way overkill :D), 150 watt Rena smart heater plumbed to the intake, air pump run on a timer at night? 5 pound pressurized co2 with ceramic diffusor. Two 24" dual CFL odyssea fixtures.
-Plant stuff: Flourite black sand, dosed with flourish and flourish excel.
-Plants: right now, only dwarf hair grass.
-Fish: WAY too many. This tank is really overstocked while I set up my new 41 gallon (that's a different thread!). Almost all from SA. Some highlights include Dicrossus maculatus, Laetacara dorsigera, Apistogramma nijsseni, black neons, some interesting plecos, Botia kubotai, and some small algae eaters. My C.121 Cory cats are also temporarily in here.

The wood placement is just temporary. I have a few more pieces that will be properly aquascaped soon. I only had one 24" fixture for a while so I only grew plants on the left half of the tank (gotta work with what you got!).

Here's a couple photos of the livestock:

Any questions are welcome. The hairgrass is now growing in on the right side, going to take a few weeks before it starts looking decent.

The grass looks healthy to me. You should add something to it though, looks a little bare to me. Can you tell me the names of the first 2 fish?

I'm just growing the carpet in. More plants will be added later.

First two fish are Apistogramma nijsseni female and Dicrossus maculatus male.

Sweet!

Personally id yank all those fish out and replace them with lampeyes but thats just because im addicted to those lampeyes :D

Very nice.. I've been hemming and hawing about getting one of these tanks for awhile with a similar idea as you're doing.. I think I'm about convinced that size will be my next planted tank. really like the hairgrass carpet you have going on. kinda reminds me of the african plains lol.

you gave me ideas for my project 55G long this spring break

It's a really great size for a planted tank. The height allows you to use less light and it's really easy to get your hand/tools in there to do aquascaping and maintenance. It also looks kinda like a panoramic photo.
It was hard to find one. I originally was going to a 40 gallon long which is slightly taller, but couldn't find one anywhere.

Hey, nice! Looks like the start of one of those super artsy japanese type tanks. Very cool!

That carpet will look awesome when it grows in! How much did you pay for all that grass, and how is it held into the gravel?
