My 3yr old died!

the tank smelled a little funky this morning, figured it was time to clean again when i saw my three yr old CL floating at the top. I dont know what could have happened to it. ive killed a few smaller ones but thats usually within a few days of getting them. ive had this one for three years. any known causes of SCLD? (Sudden Clown Loach Death)
There is a small spot on his right sidewhere he may have gotten stuck between the heater and the side but i doubt that. i use marineland stealth and ive never had a burn problem from it. the spot could also have been where fish were chewing on him postmortum

I have never seen a Clown Loach get stuck. There have been a couple times where I have thought "How in the heck did it get in there, and how is it going to get out? They always get out.

Sorry about your CL!! I hate when ours die, and we aren't sure what happened.

Test your water. You may have had an ammonia or nitrite spike.

As for the other loaches that died within a few days, that time course usually indicates improper acclimation. There was a recent thread discussing that.

How large? On another note, my clowns, on several occasions, have squished themselves in very tight piping used as caves for smaller fish. They couldn't exactly get out, but when I tapped the glass loudy, they then wriggled out.
