my dovii spawned about 1 month ago and only 11 eggs were fertilized and are now about 3/4 inch. they spawned again about a week ago and i got about 300 this time so now the male knows what hes doing:) if anyone wants to buy some of the 11 i have pm me. there nicaraguan blue dovii.

Any pics of the parents?

Congrats on the spawn - yes please post some pics of mom & dad.

thats AWESOME dude but IMO i would separate them and not let them breed again until they get some size on them since like with pretty much all cichlids there growth slows considerably when they are using up energy and resources to breed, GOOD LUCK with your pair though sounds like you have lucked out and got yourself a pair that is really strongly bonded

and +1 on pics ;)

Nice...I am trying to get a pair. The male is not to thrilled every time she wonders over on his side through the divider.

Keep that divider up. Now that he has spawned with her, he will want to again and if she is not ready he can put a hurting on her. Possibly kill her.

ill get some pics. only the females growth slows i believe as the male doesnt do anything except fertilize the eggs. thats all mine does anyhow. he doesnt fan or help the female do anything. actually thats the only time the much smalller female wants the male around is to fertilize otherwise she chases him away.

yeah its true the females do more, but i mean biologically it is very physically expensive to breed, though your right it takes much more energy to create and lay the eggs and yes its usually the female that is the most affected by the growth slowing, but if i had a nice blue dovii i would do everything i could to prevent anything from possibly slowing him down from reaching his potential, though i dont really know what affect it has on males, it was just a thought, and thats funny you mention her only wanting him near to fertilize because i had a pair of GTs and they were super close and swam every where together but as soon as she laid eggs and he had done his job she relentlessly chased him around the tank until he finally jumped out the back hole where the filter is :( talk about bipolar lol
GOOD LUCK

I am all for huge and awesome fish, but I wouldn't be apposed to having a slightly slower growing dovii to buy some time for a tank upgrade. Maybe that's just me. I could see a problem if the male does grow at a faster rate and becomes a bit much for the female though. At any rate, pics!?
