Why are these Laps green and mine are grey??

Mine are Nigerian too:confused:
there is a lot of individual variation among Nigerian laps when it comes to color/contrast. That's reason #1. Reason #2 is sometimes a dark substrate/bottom like black can help bring out the green that a bichir has.

Hi,

beneath the colour of the ground there's another factor of getting those beloved coloration of a lap: The light!
Yellowish light will give you a vivid green, reddish light tends to a less vivid green but very good contrasts ...
I've tried it a few times to see if other factors may have some influence - every time i changed the lightning the lap changed his coloration a few hours later - also the other bichirs (polli gets very dark and got those nearly neon-green spots!)

Greetings

Uwe
