Today is a sad day, discovered my polyuranodon behind the tank in the morning. I've kept it for about a year without problems. Actually, managed to escape the tank twice already even with water level lowered by 25%, I lowered it another 15% to about only 60% and was fine without incident for 6 months. The tank is a 180x45x65 without a tight fit canopy so I had to just run a much lower water level. Really unfortunate as she's grown very much within the past year. I was planning to her into my bigger tank but was worried about size issue. Now there won't be an issue. Her girth was about my thumb joint.. RIP

disposed of her body in my piranha tank ;(

That seriously sucks, she looked like a beauty...

I went through the whole eel escape with my old fire eel, since then i've learned to make my sure my tank is as eel escape proof as possible...

Sorry to hear that, hope you don't let it stop you from trying another one.

That sucks but u really need a tight lid if u wanna attempt to keep one. I've lost one cuz I thought my lid was tight but he went out thru the filter. My other one is about a year old now got him at 14".

It's most unfortunate indeed, I'd probably try again later in the future if I come across any XL ones on the market. I've seen 30"++ ones and they are just fantastic with some sizable girth. Really was sad today..

Sorry for your loss, they are really neat animals.

I have three around the size that you have and they seem to be a little thinner than yours. I too can't wait to get them in my show tank but they have to start to put on some serious girth before I can do that, right now they are just growing in length.

Next time I will definitely get a trio to have them keep each other company. At first I kept mine with my group of 9 altum Angels in a 120x45x60 planted with driftwood but the eel managed to kill 3 of them from a single bite so I had to move it. They are an exceptional hobbyist species and would require a higher level of attention and care similar to the level of keeping stingrays.
