i finally got off the couch and worked on my 55 gallon sump for my 240. its got a Rio hyperflow 32hf pump. ive got a few bugs to work out yet, but so far so good. for the filter media im using pillow batting from walmart. the drip plate is an old yoga mat that i burnt holes in w/ the soldering iron. its held up by florescent light grating, as well as the scrubbies below (thanks zennzzo). ive got flex hose on the drains for now, need to work on that more... also the top grating needs more bracing to keep it more level....opinions good or bad are welcome.

ok i need advise...
i have dual durso overflows choked down as seen in the first pic... check the large check valves... its been going good for a couple hours, and jsut started gurgling from one side. should i make the air hole in the top larger?? ive taken the top of the one off and it sounds like a open drain, then capped it off partially, helped w/ the rushing sound but thats it.....still gurgling.... sounds like the wife is making coffee....maybe open the drain more???

the smaller the hole in the top of your durso the closer the pipe gets to becoming a full siphon, thus flowing alot more water.
i had a 3000lph pump with two 1' durso's but i ran one at a full siphon and the other handled the leftover flow. it only had a 1/16" hole in top

so if your is gurgling it means you are siphoning the water away too fast, so you either neeed a larger breather hole in the top of your durso or close your ball valves a bit more. i have seen a few setups with an adjustable air valve fitted to the top of the durso i think thats a great idea.

Try making a adjustable air hole in your set-up. There's a link below that will explain it better than I can. I made one and it only took me a few minutes of adjusting to get the correct airflow

yeah i read the durso adjustable vent, but the guy that did it suggested no to do it, too difficult dialing it in. i drilled the one hole one size larger to 5/64. so far so good. havent been home much but no complaints from the wife.
