Hey guys! My husband and I have a 55 gallon hybrid African chiclid tanks and they are breeding like crazy. We purchased a one gallon tank to keep the babies in. Now what do we do with the babies?

Riskee the african rift fish have become widely known for hybridization in home tanks. There is no market for breeding the fish, and since they only have a 55 letting the rest of that tank mates eat the babies is one of the best options. Attacking me or making comments about my fish is not going to hurt my feelings. It is the reality of fish keeping. If my breeder female in one of my tanks is not striped before she is ready, the entire tank swarm her and eat the babies. It is cruel? No it is nature. This is a feeding mice to arrowana or getting a sick thrill, it the best option.

Besides some of the most smallest fish are most interesting, associating "coolness" with the capacity to eat other fish is probably a manifestation of your compensations.

what are you compensating for?

lol

I would also let them get eaten or give them to a store for free if they'll take them, as there is not much profit to be made from selling them as hybrids anyways.

hybrids can be cool and all but there not really worth anything if you bring them to a pet shop or otherwise let them get eaten cause there not worth much..

Only you can answer the question on what to do with the babies. Hybrids can be really beautiful fish. What are they crossed with.
You can do what Mike said or you can grow them out( depending on how many) and keep them or give them away or even sell them to those who have no intenetions on breeding them. I have had crosses come out beautiful and sold them for cheap just so I didnt have to destroy them.
But mostly if I dont see the parents breed they become fish food.
Why did you keep them anyway if you dont know what to do with them?

im sorry but thats jus wrong to let them get eaten. can u post pics? may i can buy em or sumthin.
