so the story goes like this... i got a free 55g and marineland c220 canister from my cousin but no stand. so i tell my fiance that i'm gonna build a stand for it and put it in the kids room. she tells me no because with all the wedding planning and wedding things we need to pay for, we don't have any money to play with right now. i told her ok and that i understand but, what if i can get the building materials for free? then all i'll have to pay for is the screws. she said she's okay with that but... how the hell are you gonna make that fit in the kids room? i told her... i'll make room lol. so off to work i go. i work in construction so i got all the building materials that i needed off the job site. and so the build begins...
sorry for the camera phone pics in the begining of the build, i wasn't able to get a hold of a camera till i was in the end stages. other than that enjoy.
bottom frame
4x4 legs
center brace and floor
top frame
used 5/8" plywood for trim on bottom, recessed center trim to cover black tank trimming and made a wooden canopy
1 coat primer, sand, 1st coat base, sand, 2nd and final coat. oh yea... painting it white to match our kids white bunk beds
as you can see, the trim is raised(recessed) so that way the tank sits in a pocket concealing black trim of the tank. and the 55g will be replacing the 29g in the background
cabinet doors, hinges and door knobs installed
final test fit before it goes in position
i told you that i can make room
filling tank
tank filled. i let it cycle for 2 days before i transfered the fish from the 29g
done!
all of this was built right outside of our 2 bedroom apartment door and my resisdent manager backs me up so i got no complaints haha. lmk what you guys think.
