Hi guys,

I just decided to get rid of my rusting metal stand and build myself a new one :). Just got 8 2x4x8 and 1 2x8x8 for the top, Im upload a pic of my plan or pic I drew up of what I hope it'll look like, probably modify it a little as I go. Only cost me $26.40, prolly would of been more if I had to buy screws and such but I have loads extra from the deck we built on my pool. Im hoping to get everything cut later after our duct vents are done drying I dont want to get saw dust all over them with wet paint haha. Hopefully will be finished tomorrow. let me no what you think, I'll take pics as I go and upload as I go.

cool beans.

what is this setting on?

you need more horizontal support to prevent scissoring. 55 gallon ain't the biggest, but if i spill 1 cup of water i hear about it from the g/f.

also to me it looks a little "lanky", mount a block to the back of the stand (a void in the middle for wiring or w/e) so you can pop a few screws into some studs for front to back support.

i've seen a few 55's come down reason being alot more tall than deep.

it holds fine. and those are wheels so I can wheel it to my bathroom for even easier water changes. Yes they have locks, and i also put scrap would and carpet around them to keep it from moving. I have the tank on it now and its fine how ever Im going to but a center brace on it and some shelves this weekend probably when I hang my light.

Do not do this. You're talking about over 600lbs of weight on top of a wooden box. Very topheavy. Additionally, the wheelbase is only 12" wide. That makes it very unstable. Those casters probably aren't even rated for that much weight. Bad idea all around.

yea +1

works fine for when I have to move it.. I screw 2x4's long ways against the tank to hold it, i roll it about 2' to my window to clean the gravel
