So i have a std 55 setup, 2 severums, 2 carpintis, BP, and 2 F1 festae 1 at 3" the other at 6". today i took out the smaller one to put in his own little 29g tank. will this help the little guy grow better since he is not competing for food? in the big tank the big festae ate it all. has anyone grown a fish out and reintroduced into the same tank? any problems that occur with this?

yeah.. that setup isnt gonna work very well. a lot of big fish in a small tank. there's gonna be alot of competition for food in there. with these fish full grown you will need atleast a 150g

yep...thats not going to work out so well for you down the road they are going to get big and aggressive then fight for territory and one by one they will kill each other off.I would bring them back for store credit and get some fish that will live for life in there that way avoid all the pain you are about to embrace.Try a convict, firemouth and keep a severum also add a pictus cat and your all set.good luck!

^^ I agree with all the above statements. Unless you plan on a 100+ gallon upgrade from what you have in the near future I dont think you should keep these fish for much longer. If you cant upgrade find them homes and get some fish that will work in a 55, there are lots out there.

lol i know all of this i have a 135 gallon, its just not setup. the concern was the smaller festae hehe. has anyone ever seperated a less dominant fish and raised it alone. how was the growth rate? change of temperament?

it should grow fine in the 29 if you keep the water pristine, but if you fall behind on maintenance, then not so good

i love this site / u guys no ur stuff but are quick to point out when a tank is over stocked / like all of u started with monster tanks / come on people, we all started some where

Well I don't Know about 150 gallons. With two Festae chances are 150 gallon isn't big enough for any other fish and if they are two males it's bad but two females it's worse. I would say 6x2x2 is your best bet. Even then it will be sketchy. Yes it's a big step for a 55 but if you want to keep the fish it's the right thing to do. Severums might be toast when the Carpinte and Festea get bigger.

Problems with reintroducing fish I have noticed if there is a set picking order in the tank and you add a re-intro it screws it all up as now lower pecking order fish are asserting dominance and it's just a fiasco of dominance.
