Opening this thread to track my progress (or lack thereof) on my 75 gallon tank build.

I picked up a 75 gallon tank, hood, light and two emperor 400 filters on craigslist for $100. From another guy I got a fluval 405 and two 250 watt heaters. Still looking for powerheads.

The tank will be going in my rec room (currently being finished) behind the bar. The back of the tank will be in a utility room with a sink so it should make maintenance easier.

Here is a concept drawing to be sure that I want the tank at the height and behind the bar.

And here is a picture of the hole in the wall:

Note: I added another stud on the right side of the "beam" after this picture. The "beam" is two 2x4's which were screwed together.

I have since drywalled, mudded and primed the room. Next up is texturing, painting, trim and carpet. When that is done I can finally work on my tank :)

That's mostly the progress for now. I'll update this thread as I make more progress.

This post is about how I cleaned my rocks...

To clean mine I first scrubbed them all in tap water. Next I soaked them in the tub in the picture below for a couple days with my old filter running. Finally I added some bleach and soaked them some more. Finally I rinsed and rinsed them with dechloranated water and now am drying them.

The water soak and bleach soak both got more "crud" off of them and into my filter pad so glad that I did that and didn't get all that cloudyness in my tank.
