I got an AC110 for christmas. :)
Its freakin' noisy. :(

Honestly, I don't really know what the problem is. It starts up fine, and runs like I expected it to. However, it is getting air into the impeller somehow, and I don't know whats causing it. If I set it so it is on the lowest flow, I can see airbubbles appearing on the side of the U-tube thing (the inside, of course) and they then flow with the water but collect at the end of the top, where it turns 90 degrees down to the impeller. After a fairly large air bubble has formed, it begins getting into the impeller. If I set it so it is on the highest flow, the bubbles don't collect, but instead get sucked straight into the impeller instead. Either way, it makes noise, just the first way it takes a few minutes before it starts.

There aren't any bubbles in the water, so it can't be that the filter is sucking those in. So, I thought maybe the U-tube is defective, and isn't completely sealed. But wouldn't water be coming out where the air is getting in? I can see what is apparently the source of the bubbles, on the side of the tube. I'll post some pictures soon.

This is driving me nuts, the thing is basically useless until I fix it.

Also, there is a plastic piece which isn't listed in the parts list, and isn't shown in any diagrams. I think I know what it is for, but it doesn't fix the problem, instead it seems to make it worse. I'll post pictures of that as well.

thanks!

I've got a ton of AC's and about 50% are noisy. I'll tell you that I've replaced some impellers hoping to lose the noise. It didn't work so don't bother unless it's actually broken.

The impeller has nothing to do with it...air is getting in it somehow, I need to figure out what the source is and stop it.

Make sure the intake is flush to the filter...If it is off the smallest bit, air can get in from where the intake "spills" into the impeller area....

theres a good chance the intake tube has a small crack/leak in the seam and its sucking in air....

or your water level is too low/impeller is not correctly seated and its not able to get enough flow/suction to dlear the air from the tube..

my guess would be a small hole in the intake.. once you figure out where it is just put a lil dab of silicone on it... the ac110s are great filters but their quality control has gone in the toilet..

I can see quite clearly where the bubbles appear to be coming from. I will try sealing it and see if that works.

with the flow set to the lowest, the bubbles collect. If I move it back to high, they don't collect but instead keep moving down the tube.

I'm not sure how I managed to get blurry pictures of a stationary object, sorry.

also, what is this piece for? I think it goes on the end of the 'U-tube' but it seems to make the problem worse, not better.

thanks

the black piece is a guide that allowes you to change the flow from high and low.. if you dont use it and have it set for anything other than high it sucks water from inside the filter insted of from the tank... this could part of your problem

I think the black piece is trash :) Just a guard for shipping....
