The other day was my female convict's birthday. She's 6 months old. So I decided since she's been alone in her 20 gallon tank for her whole life, that I'd put my 5 inch male con in with her so they can spawn, and make her a mother!

Well that didn't seem to pan out. When I put him in there, it was the usual; tail slapping and a bit of chasing. But I did notice that she would puff her gills alot and bite my male on the face. His whole life he has been a softie, the only fish he killed or hurt were zebra danios. So I left them alone for awhile.

But when I checked on them a few hours later, my male con had scales bitten off on both of his sides, and my female had numerous fighting scars on her mouth. No fish was hiding from the other, but they didn't exhibit the usual con mating activity.

I know my male is an easygoing con, but sheesh! I wouldn't expect a little, 6 month old female to beat him up!
