Well I did what everyone on here told me to, which was to just wait and he now eats thawed shrimp off a skewer. I do have a problem with him trying to escape his tank though. I am hopefully getting a wider and much larger tank tomorrow. I was trying to save money up for a really nice large 250 gal+ but I can't wait any longer he managed to jump out of his tank and onto the floor when I was in the shower and I just got him in time so he didn't die. He is one strong, clever fish!

You might want to add some weights to the top of your tank to prevent him from pushing pass the tops.

I say you just sweet talk that husband of yours into getting you the bigger tank and start working on that pond for your gars future home :)

Sounds like an excellent plan! I'll do that! So my husband has a pretty expensive hobby too (rebuilding and beefing up Jeeps) so its more of you buy your hobby and ill buy for mine. For the holidays I'm getting him jeep parts and he's getting me aquarium stuff ha.
Thanks for the post! :)

And congrats on getting the gar to eat no live, it's always more enjoyable when you don't have to run off to get feeders when your fish are hungry. Next you can try is tilapia fillets, I just cut them into strips and wave them in front of my larger fish and they just gobble it down. It also saves time from peeling all those darn prawns.

I don't peel mine they come easy peeled and i cut them down the middle should I peel them? I definitely will try the tilapia though! My father came over and tried to feed him by hand and got scared it was funny to watch!

I don't think you need to peel them especially for the gator.

I bet it was funny to watch your father get scared but I don't blame him in the least. I wouldn't want to get bit by a gator gar either.

Ha okay good he only likes to feed when I have my light turned off though should I break that habit you think? or should I just be thankful he eats them ha! Also he is pretty strong I skewered a shrimp threw the casing before my father tried to feed him to see how hard he would have to try to take it off and it just made my father more intimidated ha! But he really is a nice fish surprisingly I can reach right in and touch him all the time and he doesn't mind. But I don't think i'll be doing that so much when he is 2 foot+ long ha!

What are your final tank plans for him?
