I am going to start journaling the progress of these guys. Although I hope to end up with a bonded pair in the future, with minimal research one could place good odds that I will end up with a single fish :) I will just have to wait and see in the end.

I wanted to track my Chancho journey in this thread.

I have had them in the tank for a month now...and there are 7 Chanchos around the 3-5 inch range. They are in with a L091, a Rhinodoras Gallagheri, and 5 Myleus Schomburgkii...that I am keeping a watchful eye on atm.

They looking good bro. the ones i got are growing pretty fast. My dominant chancho I believe is a male already an inch bigger in a month. So far, they are hungry all the time and pretty mean to each other.

Very nice chanchos! You may be able to get a pair to work out. I used to have a big bulky female that played well with other cichlids, but of course she was a female and a male may be a different ball game.

Are you selling any ?

Here's a little update. There has been a little growth over the past couple of months. I am beginning to think they are all male lol. No male-female behavior as far as I can tell. I have 6 now because one was somewhat beat up and he was especially aggressive toward the SD's more than anything else...so I rehomed him. I think he was taking out his frustration on the SDs. The alpha appears to be the one that is mostly focused on in the clip.

What is strange is my Schomburkii conspecific aggression has increased with this group of Chanchos. They have lived with several diff aggressive cichlids so I think they are kinda nuts lol. The Chanchos seem to leave the SDs alone at this time besides the occasional swipe.

I have been feeding 3mm NLS Insectum...mostly twice a day (once a day on days I work...because I work 12's) and I do about a >60% pwc every 3-4 days.

Update. Really bummed. I had rehomed the other 5 because I had a dominant male that wasn't having any of the other Chanchos including the 2 females. I found him on my floor 2 days ago in the morning. I should of known because I would always hear my actylic lids rattle at night. I had left them open cause I have been saving on the AC cost here in Cali. He was going to be a real psycho and would of been a fun fish. So now I am left with a tank of SD's.

Futhermore, this hasn't been a good few weeks of pets. My cat supposedly had hyertophic cardiomyopathy and threw a clot losing her hind quarters and her lungs filled up with fluid...and I had to put her to sleep last week. I am truly bummed. Cannot take anymore Pet losses for a while.

So guess this thread is done....

Aww jeez, I'm sorry to hear that! Really **** week for sure. Losing a beloved fish always hurts, and a four legged is even harder! Oddly enough, I've been in the exact same situation as you with one of my cats. Few years ago I had cat (only 9 at the time) who seemed sick one morning, she was curled up on the floor and wouldn't move. I was on my way to work and left her be, not wanting to bug her when she wasn't feeling well. Came home and she literally hadn't moved, so tried to get her up and realized she was dragging her back legs. Ran her to the vet, she also had a clot that blocked off a vein and caused total paralysis on her back end, nothing we could do for her so we had to put her down very unexpectedly. On my wedding anniversary no less! I felt SO, SO horrible that I'd just left her like that all day not knowing how serious it was. So I really do feel for you!

Really sorry for both your losses, had something similar happen to my Buttikoferi a couple months ago. I know how it feels man. It’s understandable if you’d have to take a break but as Jexnell Jexnell said don’t let it deter you from your dream. Sh*t happens and there’s not much more you could’ve done. I’m sure you did your best with him.
