it died yesterday. assuming it was 6 months old when i bought him (jumbo size), it was 6 years old. it lived with my axolotl for its whole life, which died about 3 months ago. the 2 were in their own tank for 5 years, then last year i decided to move them in with goldfish. then with guppies, because the goldfish nipped at the axolotl. the snail enjoyed the planted guppy tank, and was in with another apple snail, which was 2 years old. the axolotl died unexpectedly, and before i realised the axolotl was dead, the snails had performed an 'autopsy', and all the axolotls guts were everywhere. the tank is in my bedroom, and the smell:nilly: oh my god.

in the last year, i noticed the snail going grey, and losing its colour.

i still have the empty shell.

i read a while back in practicalfishkeeping magazine that snails for aquariums rarely live for more than 12 months.:screwy::ROFL:

actully i have some old (but long) vids of it in its first tank. i might edit them all together and speed them up and throw in some benny hill theme music. :nilly::naughty: thats tomorrows job.

The length of lifespan depends on which apple snail species and the temperature of the tank as well as diet. Pomacea bridgesii rarely live longer than 12-18 months, but the larger species like cana, flapples, haustrums, etc can like many years.

Sorry to hear about your snails. I'll be interested to see the videos.
