my archer won't spit

k guys i've had my archer for just under a year and he is probably about 10-15cm, but he will not spit, it's the whole reason i got him and he refuses, i've dangled crickets above his head but he just stares at me like i'm an idiot.
how do i encourage him
 
Call me dum but could it be he does not reliaze that he can spit because if you got him as a baby he probly does'nt know how and never will but i don't know.
 
He may have lost the instinct because he's never had to use it, or he's just not hungry enough to do the work for the food since he knows he's gonna get fed anyway.
 
Every Archer that I've owned in the past I have eventually got to spit, usually without much trouble. Try and get some Sera Raffy L (you should be able to find this easily in any aquarium or petshop, its a food mix for reptiles, consists of dried insects etc.), grab a few pieces, wet in the tank water and stick to the glass above the water level. You should easily have him spitting in no time.
