I've never seen so much brown STUFF in one tank.
It must have been 2mm thick at some points
Anyway, tank is spiffy and clean, and I managed to clean the gravel and filter without creating a mini cycle! Hooray!

I haven't put anything back in the tank yet (decor wise) so it's all boring and bare. I was going to go to a LFS tomorrow to find some driftwood and I was wondering what type of light would be best for a blackwater tank (going to use indian almond leaves, still looking up on this). I have a regular strip light fixture, and I was thinking LEDs, but would that be too bright for a blackwater look?

Thanks

Annnyyyyonee?

Depending on the leds you pick up, they may be darker than a regular t5 fixture. I ended up with a marineland led setup from petsmart for my birthday for my growout tank. It's actually darker now than it was when I had the el chepo light fixture up top.

For blackwater, considering you already have a standard fixture, I would just pick up a warmer (more yellow) bulb for it, it will keep costs down and may just give you the look you are going for.

Alright. I think I'll mess with my tank to start with and then tweak all the little bits later (such as the lights) to get my desired effect.

thats what she said....

Haha....Yeahhh that's what I thought when I was typing. :naughty:

This is a good option to start with. Also Indian almond leaves work great to create a black water tank and give a real natural feel as leaf litter. Try breaking up some of the leaves as well it will give a more natural effect.

too many catappa leaves will REALLY give you black water. 2-3 leaves per 50 gallons is what I run. I've posted my source previously, I recommend you pull it up. great product/price.

I love the smell of them too. I've considered trying to grow it as a houseplant, but decided it would be too much of a PIA. big big tree.
