i have a 6" jardini and he appears to have what looks like a dent in his left side just behind his front fins about 3/4" long and on the other side a bit sticks out slightly, i was wondering if anyone knows what it could be? i've had him for about 2 weeks he had a poorly bottom lip which has healed nicely and his tail fin was a bit scruffy which is getting better already i think due to the silver dollars that were in the tank i got him from but i have no idea what this dent thing is!!! oh the water parameters are sweet he's in a 3ft by 1ft tank with 2 plecos i ran the tank for 2 weeks with tetra safe start and safe water in before i put him in, he's eating locusts and crickets well and i put a few tetras in at first to relieve the stress of moving which have subsequently been eaten just to give a bit of history so far, i never noticed it when i first got him but i never noticed it wasn't there either i hope thats enough information to help me

Pic would help.

What exactly is your defenition of "sweet" water parameters? I would question that your 4 week old tank is properly cycled.

Yup, pic would be of great help.

Could be anything from genetic problem (scoliosis) to if the fish really got the ***** beat out of him by the Silver Dollars or some other tankmate it could be scar tissue or adhesions on the swim bladder or nerve damage. No telling without a pic.

What ever it may be though I'd have to agree with BD about the water quality. Depending on what method of filtration you're using those meds and chemicals lasted just about long enough to get filtered out by any chemical filtration you're using.

is it a dent or did he just get a scale or two knocked off? that can look dent-like.

maybe defect, pictures?

Hard to say without seeing him. maybe some bruising form the silver dollars, or ?

well thats not very helpful is it now? ok you know more than me its alright i can live with that but you dont have to go about trying to show off your vast knowledge by putting people down, maybe the tank wasnt properly cycled but i seriously doubt that was what could have caused the dent so why the need to say it?
