well i havent done an update on my bad boy but heres a pretty crazy story that happened over the weekend.

He/Shes about 18 inches now and really coming out of his shell... not that thats been a problem in the past, but he(we will call himm a he for now) really seems to be changing his personality ever since my gar moved in with him, which suprised me cause i thought he would hate the gar but really doesnt mind.

Saturday was my senior prom so i came home at about 2 and wanted to check on her. I never turn on the tank lights from pitch black cause i d-ont want him to through a fit so i turned on the garage lights on dim just to check him out. and low and behold something iv never seen happened. He was laying down.

I freaked cause he has never layed on the bottom sd i turned on the lights. He just stayed there.

now.... my tank is 180 gallons and has two topsto it with handles that open like a lid and stay attached in the back. But theres a tiny TINY opening in the back where the HOB filter hangs.

back to the story, i was stairing at my prized baby laying there wondering WTF he was doing and WAMO! he went balistic,...... now, i have seen some arowana freak outs from this guy but this beat it by 100. He shot for the top right top and hit it so hard... BTW the top is solid glass and about 5 pounds just to open it.....hit it so hard that it lifted and clunked then shot left and did the same CLUNK again then back to the right sweeping the surface of the water blowing bubbles( my gar) down the the abyss.. you know how gars are.
Then it went silent. I peaked down to see him and he was gone. SON OF A B****i said not again.

then the silence was broken by the distinct moist flapping on my garage floor. I ran over took about 20 seconds to get a gentle yet solid hold on him then realised i couldnt open his tank cause i was not about to risk holding him with one hand and dropping him, its bad enough his hit my garage floor 2 times from a 180 tank on a stand. So i ran back to the hole and slid him on on only to see a scale the size of a nickle sink with him.

this is the 5th time he has jumped out of his tank all of them were in front of me during feeding and cleaning. now i dont reaaaly have a question with this thread just wanted to share how crazy my arowana is. Hes so freakin mischevious but i love him cause hes not alway like this. Just sometimes has a ****fit.
...........................i shouldnt of woken him up lol

I'd be mad too if you woke me up in the middle of the night just to bug me. You are lucky he did not bite your eye off.

What are you doing!!!!!!. Some aro scare easily.. Sometimes my 15 inch silver aro rests on the bottom of the tank. That's a good thing. It shows that they are comfortable to rest. How long have you had him??? You have to sit there a watch them a get to know there movement. I know when mine is on the hunt for food or when he is about to eat and when he is nervous. I had to stop feeding him froggies because he kept banging his head on the top of the tank trying to eat the frog(baby bullfrog). You might want to try to lower your water level. That worked good for me. Now I feed him 3 raw shrimp with the shell on no tail. What I do is I have a suction cup with a clip on it and clip the shrimp and stick it on the side of the tank with shrimp hanging in the water. Now he gentley rips the shrimp off the clip and he enjoys his meal. I also feed him krill, crickets and feeder fish. I am also getting a external water heater because he can injure or kill himself if he hit it hard enough. Well try not to scare him anymore, I hope your aro isn't hurt!!!

Here's a video of my Aro eating( I just missed it when he grabbed it off the clip) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2S6N0spdps

thats halarious. never have i ever had my fish freak out like that. ive seen others go crazy, but my beasts are gentle.

mine has never frraked out that hard. i can read his movements really well too tho i didnt post this thread in hopes of looking like a noob with my fish dont get me wrong. But i have had him about 8 or 9 months. I can tell when hes hungary cause he gets his back really close to the surface and sticks hisbarbels out of the water. When hes pissed he swims and turns faster about 2 inches below the surface. And when hes a bout to jumb he arches his back up and winds up his tail.thanks for replys.

yah i didnt say u were a noob or anything lol. jus saying i've never experienced the freakout tantrums that others do. i know it happens tho. my friends does it all the time. even tho its a complete solo tank fish, it has its days lol.

i dont really think de is from tank hits..... he has it tho in one eye, he has had it for a few months.
