I am new here so forgive me for any ignorance. I need help! I have a new black arowana that I just put in my tank a few days ago. I have 2 peacock bass and 1 teacup stingray with it in the tank. I think the arowana might have some type of skin parisite, ICH. It looks like tiny pieces of sand on the sides, top and eyes of the fish. I started using Rid-Ich that was recommended by the place I got him from. I also have slowly raised the temp to 86deg. This is the third day/treatment and I think it has helped. But I have noticed a few changes and wanted to know if this is normal. The two wisker type entenas on the top of his mouth have shriveled up and I have noticed he is breathing a bit more rapid. Is this something I should be concerned with? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

These are very hard to keep, but try adding Furan 2 and make sure you have I tablespoon of plain non iodised salt per gallon. It is best to treat in a bare tank, but do the best you can. I have owned an aquarium shop for 33 years.

how big is it?
did u aculmate(sp?) him before puttin him in the tank
blacks are really sensitive to water temperature
i would of raised the temp to 86 before puttin him in

+1 would not be to good if you just chucked him in :)

When ever u see an Arowana with heavy breathing.. it could be A. not enough oxygen in the tank, B. water might be burning him C. He's sick D. He's had a full meal and its making him uncomfortable.. (this happened to my Arowana)...

Usually raising a tank's temperature helps.. Rock Salt is also an excellent cure...

I would suggest tho.. to let your Black Arowana be the master of the tank and have tanks mates that are non aggressive. Black Arowana are the most sensitive Arows out there.. I've heard of premature deaths due to not eating correctly or fear due from tank mates... which leads to starvation.....

Also.. your Pbass might stress out the young arowana.

Hmmm, quarantine your new fish - either at the shop (if you know the LFS enough) or at home ... risky business adding a complete stranger fish into your aquarium without precautions
