I modified my drip system to more of a hybrid auto water change/ drip system and thought I would share. The major catalyst was that my sump recently overflowed over a hundred gallons while I was OOT due to my sump overflow drain being accidently closed. Second I was tired of dripping 100 gallons a day but the new water is diluted and a percentage is lost to drain- so it is actually not a true 100 gallon water change. I love the convenience of drips systems.
I used a old little giant pump placed on a platform 6in high inside the sump. I timed how long it took to drain the sump to about 6in of water (20 min) I attached the little giant pump to a electronic timer to run 15 minutes twice a day. Drains about 60 gallons 2 times a day.
I coneccted my existing drip system to a float valve and set valve to refill over a course of 3 hours. I use 2 inline carbon cartridge filters from lowes to breakdown chloramine. The left over ammonia is managed by BB and has no effect of water parameters.
