I went to my LFC gigantic spring fish auction today. There was (not exaggerating) over 1,000 bags of fish as well as various tanks (one if which I purchased) and decor as well as a raffle and 50/50 drawing. Everybody had a great time! I couldn't resist bidding for a little 1 inch Longfin Super Red BN. You wouldn't believe how many pleco maniacs were there, I had to go up to $16 before everybody else gave up on it. It currently resides in my 30 tall with tankmates much bigger (which scares me). My asian bumblebee catfosh head butted it one time when I out it in but he didn't bug it much after that, he still punches it out of his cave when the plec gets near but to physical violence. Although, my angelfish that's about 2.5" has tried to bite it, only reason it hasn't bit it is because it moves so much. Anyways, it's a awesome new pleco and I'm currently taking name suggestions (I believe it's a female since it's a BN for sure but has no bristles).image.jpg

At 1" it can't be known for sure if it's male or female. Some males are late bloomers. I know I had a L144 that didn't start showing signs of being a male til it hit the 2.5" range. Nice looking pleco though. Super Reds are the most expensive BN's out right now that I know of followed by the Green Dragons.

They had some really rare Ancistrus at the auction, this was just the only one that came one in a bag and wasn't to large. They had several bags of red and black marble Ancistrus but there were to many per bag for me to get.

Oh ok. Well this was a nice buy regardless. Can't wait to see this one when it's bigger.

Yeah for sure! I wasn't questioning whether it was worth it or not considering I went up to $16 :). It'll look nice even when it's fins repair, there are a few tears in the caudal and one in the dorsal.

Well she's still doing good and all the fin tears she had when I bought here seemed to have patched up. I've been trying to feed her shrimp pellets and algae wafers but I think she's intimidated by my larger bottom feeders (they don't bug her I think she's just scared if them) so she's hasn't been eating either of them. I know she's been surviving on algae off the walls but I'm worried what'll happen once she runs out and still won't touch food. Also what would be some good foods to try to give her? Is it normal to see through to their stomach like this?

The lighter colored pleco's like albino's or like your fish usually have transparent tummy's when there small. Can't remember if it's still like this when there bigger or not but I know it's normal in little ones like yours.

I have a bunch of Albino BNs they are the same way, mine are about the same size as yours, see a couple of larger ones at my LFS that you can still see it like this. I agree with not being able to tell if it's male or female till it gets much bigger, I have 5 males that were all late bloomers, so I guess time will tell.
