So I got a 2-3 inch jack dempsey yesterday and put him in a 125gallon tank with 7 giant danios which were used to cycle the tank. I didn't expect them to necessarily peacefully coexist, but I also did not expect the ensuing blood bath. Twenty four hours after putting the jd in the tank, 5 of the danios are dead and two are hiding at the top of the tank in terror. I'm going to transplant them to another tank because their work is done and they've suffered enough I think.

So, now I'm faced with a dilemma. I was planning on putting a baby blood parrot and a baby oscar in the tank with the jd and I'm concerned he might try to murder them too. What do you guys think? The oscar will grow so much faster than the jd that it makes sense to get a smallish oscar, but I don't want him to end up cut in half floating in my tank like a danio currently is. Any advice? Thanks.

I never seen or heard of a JD going hard like that!!

Fish are like dogs tho, some go hard, some go home, you most have a monster!!!!

I checked and he's definitely a male. But I figured that since he's so young that he would be more tame for awhile. He had different ideas though.

so then you're of the opinion that he would try to attack parrots/oscars the same size or larger than himself?

lol i had one just like that
