Small turtles rarley hibernate succesfully. Even large ones are dangerous to do so in captivity. I hibernate mine outside.
Besides that, i'm trying to figure out what happended. I'm only asking these to try and find out what happened, not to be mean.
Why were you hibernating your turtle?
If you simply took the turtle out of its tank, put it in a container into the frigde, its body was ready yet. To hibernate, turtles slowly acclimate to the new surroundings, start eating less and then their bodies nearly stop. If the turtle was pushed into a hibernative state, that may have started the problem.
