In what is probably a problem for 95% of cichlid owners, see a pic below of my tank every time I get back from work; with plants floating about that are (usually) suction cupped onto the sides.

At this point its either my GT or one of the BP's!

Both, haha. I gave up having plants with larger cichlids lone ago.

I helped a friend of mine set up his oscar tank.
I siliconed some fake plants to some lava rock so he wouldn't move the plants lol

Giving up is not my style, this is my planted tank with Jags in it...and still going without harm. I'm gonna prove that it is possible to keep plants with Large Cichlid (I did same with my previous Jag for 3 years before I moved to CA).

Lets get an update at 8-12" haha. Bad as my jags have been my midas/labiatus/midevils have been the worst by a long shot. Those things are freaking machines
