I picked up a young bgk yesterday at 3:00 PM. He was about 3 inches long. He was still in the tank at 2:45 in the morning when I got home last night - and healthy and eating. Now hes gone. I just put in sand substrate - could he have buried himself? I really don't think my other fish could have eaten him. I have a 2 inch golden wonderkill, 2 silver dollar size marble angels, a pleco, 2 six inch senegals, 1 5 inch ornate, one 15 inch rope who usually prefers frozen food over live, and a 11 inch rope. Also, there were 3 ABK in the tank... One seven incher and two smaller three inchers. Everyone was getting along great. The water level is down 3 inches from the top so I doubt he jumped, not to mention I cant find him on the floor or in the filters. Did he bury himself or ... get eaten?

Also, no one has an enormously swollen belly. The senegals are a little thick, but they ate a dozen rosies during the night.

A Black Ghost Knife. Ive checked... he's nowhere to be found unless he buried himself.

He's no where. I was going to buy this cave I liked at another fish store today so all he had to hide in was a spot behind a breeding slate the angels have. I took it out... checked around all the plants. I just checked the filter too.

I don't know what happened. Ive never had a BGK before so maybe he's incompatible with one of the other species he was with. I'm pretty mad at the fish - I've sworn not to feed them for a week. I really liked that little guy - I've wanted him since early last summer and he got eaten in less than 24 hours. It's a bunch of bul..

Polys and opposing Knifefish could make quick work of the body, and the pleco would of finished up the left overs?

How big was the BGK?

I believe at 3" a black ghost knife is very fragile. I was at a local petsmart a few months ago and they had three of them in a tank mixed in with mollies and I watched the mollies pick on the knives repeatedly for fifteen minutes. I was tempted to buy all three just to save them but they would have been food in all of my tanks. I had a young girl who was working in the fish department put some pipes and tubes in there for them so they had some shelter. The tubes were removed the next day because the manager said it was against some type of BS store policy. I am almost certain the knives died from the constant picking.

Anyways my point is if 3" knives could be killed by a bunch of mollies I am certain your bichirs could have done him in and eaten the remains by the morning. Sorry for you loss..
