MY BICHIR WONT EAT !!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What are you trying to feed?

Water quality readings?

But even with bad nitrate issues I had in the padt, my bichers were the only fish that ate consistently. Has there been any changes in their tank recently?

have you tried feeding it at night with the lights off? i know my first senegal at first would only eat at night, and he ate only earthworms

A lot of good suggestions, earthworms are a perennial bichir favorite, nitrates could be too high(the tank IS cycled isn't it?), check temperature, I've had fish that wouldn't eat below 74F.

If feeding pellets and they aren't known pellet eaters, you can try rolling the pellets in fresh crushed garlic(It's in a lot of pellets already as an appetite stimulant and attractant, but fresh always works best!) Once they recognize the pellets as food, you can quit the fresh garlic. Hard part is getting them to recognize them as food.

If they're tiny still, you may have to chop up any worms.

That's everything I can think of off of the top of my head without more information than they're bichirs that aren't eating.

Are they new pickups/new to the tank or have you had them for awhile?

What was their feeding regime before/ what are they eating

Lots of good suggestions posted but from the info you provided it is hard to say why.

Depending on their size they can go quite awhile with out food but concerning why a poly is not eating
