My Bichirs Are Always Hungry

How much is adequate feeding for 10" upper jaw bichir? Is 1/2 of a small shrimp a day per bichir sufficient or too much? My feeding currently is 1/2 a shrimp each bichir per day if I were to divide the portion evenly. I'm tempting to feed more because they're always so hungry like a cichlids running up to the glass begging for food.

I fed my bichir the same size of market shrimp as you twice a day, he seemed well fed although i still would see him going up and down the glass like a begger, that behavior could be due to something else?

I would feed as much as they want to eat in a few minutes twice a day. If all they want to eat in a few minutes is half a shrimp, then that amount is perfectly fine. The most important thing is that you are not leaving uneaten food in the tank.

I feed mine often but small portion. Overfeeding is never good for any living things..

It's best to feed them often throughout the day but smaller portions

Why not just feed them a little more? Then scoop out any leftovers so they don't rot.

How did your bichirs get so fat off of half a small shrimp each? I've been wanting to see feeding time in your tank

Polypterus will eat so much it looks like they have bloat, or are impacted.They could eat twice maybe more of what you give them.
Feed them more and just watch.
