When i first got my bird, he didn't know how to fly. I've taken him outside plenty of times, no desire to fly. I've even tried to get him to fly, and he didn't.

Well, today him and I were outside, and we were selling a bird cage to a woman. Houdini was being a showoff as usual, and the woman wanted to see his wings spread wide. I held him up in the air on my wrist, he spreads his wings... and takes off!

I was pretty freaked out. He went up into the air, acted a little freaked out at first... he circled around the house and me, and I said, "Houdini, get back here!" I held out my arm and he landed on it. a lot of my neighbors were out, and they all thought it was amazing.

It would be fun to do free flying things with him. If he is going to fly, i want him to be as good at it as possible, and know to always come to me.

you bought a bird that didnt know how to fly? you got hosed. must have been in the defective isle. lucky he didnt run away.

that's amazing!! i'm sooo glad he came back i know how stressful that can be. i love birds <3 have always had some. my green cheek conure is a spastic flier that i can't control so never take outside, and a few of my cockatiels got out once for a few days during rainy season [landed on my head both times...wtf] so i decided to train them to come to me. training consisted of taking them across the yard/pool area, then having him come to me on cue- 'here, flyboy!' with a treat: a mirror. after a time they'd always come when called :D pretty neat to show your friends but even more awesome if it was a BIG bird! also your bird is goooorgeous <3 ugh macaws, so majestic. rock on monsterbirdkeeper<3

most people that get a bird for a pet dont wont them to fly. They clip there wings on purpose so they wont be crashing into thing and get hurt. even if he had paid for this bird he would be far from getting hosed!

that is awesome...i would be terrified he wouldn't come back, but if u can train him to come back to u, that would be amazing
