i know theres no way to tell but there is a size difference.

oh id say 1.5 to 2 years since they were just a little bigger then fry

it is tough, but I am guessing both male. Mainly due to the shape of the fin. It is not 100%, but as close as you will get unless you see one holding.

darn i was hoping the smaller one was a female. i want to breed them. ill try to get a female. the big one ocasionally chases the smaller one but i have seen the bigger one do the quiver and quake move to the the smaller but no response out of the smaller one.

get a few females, sell off the sub-dominant male, and then you'll have a nice breeding group.

i have 4 of them and they are growing pretty good for the few months ive had them

Males will do that show aggression and dominance as well.
