Somewhere lost
I have a central american boa which a few know. She was the sweetest thing ever. Now all the sudden she will not eat and she strikes at me and the mouse but never bites. Nothing has changed with the tank I have no idea what happened. She never comes out anymore. Any idea what is going on?

how big is it and is it about to go into shed? it is not terribly uncommon for some snakes to go off feed for a month or two each year but since there is some aggression, I am thinking it may be getting ready to shed. Dont worry about it just yet but keep a close eye on her for any odd behaviors.

She's between 2 and 2.5', this is odd. She hasn't done it before in till now. She might be getting ready to shed as the other 2 snakes have and they shed about then same time. This has been going on over a week now, I am pretty sure she hasn't gone dull but she might have. I haven't been here a week and told my friend watching the animals not to mess with her because of how she is acting.

whats the temperature in the tank? Has it passed stool sence you got it? Make sure its in the mid/ high 80's. Make sure she is hydrated. Give her a few soaks is either a rubbermaid tub or your bathtub with 80deg water in it. Let her swim about and hydrate for 20 min or so. Check with the previous owner when and what it last ate ( if it was frozen, pre kill or alive. *mouse, rat, rat pup* ) Leave her alone with the food for up to an hour, some snakes like to eat in complete dark, so try feeding her in her tank/ in a rubbermaid tub with a towel to block out the sunlight. Some are shy eaters, so just throw the prey in and leave the room.
Try these tips out, all have worked for me. If you have any questions comment back :D

I have had her since feb. She was eating fine before. I think she was just being moody. She is back to normal now. She just ate a mouse. Believe me none of my snakes are shy eaters or care what time they are fed. I think main issue is she has no heat at this moment. The heat pad is no longer working. I figured this out the other day. But heat isn't a great issue as my room never goes bellow 79*, but will be picking up a heat pad this weekend, but right now it doesn't seam to be bothering her. Also water isn't the issue I have a 2gl tub in with her that is always full.
I am curious on how long should the 90gl last her?

A 90 gallon tank will last most femalt red tail boas 2 - 3 years without any complications. Redtail Boas are best off in a 125Gtank for a full life tank from there. but you can also build your own cage out of 2x4's, plywood, plexiglass sheet and you can use a stainless steel mesh screen for ventilation or drill air holes in either the plywood or the plexiglass. Look up custom tank desings, they tend to be much cheaper to build than buying a new glass tank.

Don't plan on buying a bigger tank she is getting a 10'x6'x8' room built just for her. The room will be done before a year so good to know she will be fine in this tank. Yeah she is a very spoiled snake.

I'd say she is quite spoiled! Im glad she is bact to eating again and is happy and not biting any more! :) Hope you and your snake have a good life together!

lol my female is a little cow, all hiss and no bite though. the boys r a dream, but her when shes coming up to shed....i just make sure she is clean and has water.
but she always eats. not one of my snakes doesnt eat during shed...apart from the royals, but they r just useless anyway lol
