My Brachyplatystoma sp. Juruense/Flash

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Beautiful! the old one was a stunner....what happened?

He was banging ard the tank for a week so I thought it was just coz the plecos were driving him nuts but I woke up one morning to find him dead

Sorry to hear bro but atleast you have a new one that will be a stunner in no time.

Beautiful. Are you saying your prior one had had a similar coloration to your current one and the coloration then evolved into this pretty pattern?

Yes I realised that Juruense with a lighter background would evolve into what I had previously. It still belongs to the Juruense family but perhaps an sp to that of the real Flash Zebra 😊

Thanks. What do you mean lighter? All I can make out from the pics is unusually many light colored stripes in the bottom pic and very defined lighter stripes in the top pic. I assume it is one and the same fish that we are discussing.

Lighter in terms of the stripes. Yes, we are on the same track :)

Sorry, mate. I am being dense here. You know well how many discussions we have had here over flash vs. non-flash, and AFAIU, there is no clarity. No consensus. Is there? Hence my strong interest (apart from being a brachy fan).

One point that confuses me is the use of the word "background" w.r.t. coloration. IDK with 100% surety which one should be considered the "base", or "background" color and which color would then stripes be. Considering strictly, the head is dark, so I think the dark color should be thought of as the base=background color. Hence, the stripes are of the light coloration.

To the main point: The only feature that's unusual to my eye in the top two pics is the number and definition (=contrast) of the lighter and darker stripes. In other words, I fail to see something unusual about the colors in the two top pics. Perhaps the photos do not convey them right? ... and the photos are a bit dim/grainy too.

Anyhow, if you can elaborate on your hunch / knowledge and describe exactly what correlation you found out, that'd be appreciated by many, I am sure.

ATM, all I understood is that you say: if the light stripes are notably lighter than usual (on the grayscale I assume, not more yellowish or more orangish or anything like that), it is going to grow into a flash zebra jur.
