Hello all

I thought it was time I post a few about my forays into brackish and sw.

For the heck of it I went into walmart this christmas time and found that their special fish of the week was violet gobies at $7.99/. So I bought all that they had and ran home and took some of my sw stuff and converted one of my 60g fw into brackish. I lost 1 of the 9 in the first week and then another 2 months later but 7 of them survived and are doing great.

I recently moved them upstairs from my basement to my living room as I need to take all evidence of life out of my basement so I can do the demo and reno of my fish room. I set them up now in a 75g tall. I dont have many pics of the tank but this one where my youngest son who has never seen them is totally enthralled with them. Even though he was feeling totally sick with a cold he had to make sure that dad knew about these fish. He has never seen them since my brackish tank was in the basement and my basement is a mess that has all my future fish company gear and some restaurant stuff in it cheaper than storage lololol. So he woke up the morning after I moved it upstairs and my wife says was transfixed by these fish.

and yesterday morning the kids come get me all worried because one of the gobies is vertical and stuck to the glass and he must be dead because he is not moving, till I showed them that he definitely moved from the handle I stuck in the water.

I have to say that others may have success with putting their gobies in full sw, but I tried that for one day and will never do that ever again. for sure they are a brackish fish in my studies.

Yesterday I went to get some fish food for my daughteres red devil and the pet store still had 4 knight gobies that they have had for a while so I bought them and added them to the tank. I will take some shots when I get home.

What I am wondering is this, is there any kind of crab or type of snail or invertibrate that will go well in a brackish set up.

For flashes of color I am going to add some mollies since they can be acclimated to brackish.

So, you have 7 of those gobies in one tank? I wouldn't do that for too long. Once they mature, they'll get really territorial and might kill each other. They may also start eating small fish and shrimp.
A violet goby hanging vertically isn't a problem unless it's gulping air at the top. That means there's a problem with the water.
What exactly happened when you put the goby in saltwater? Did you acclimate it properly?

Ghost shrimp and Amano shrimp do well in brackish I think. Nerite snails do well in brackish, and are great algae eaters.

I am kind of anal about water quality in my tanks, my motto is over filter over filter over filter weekly wc sometime bi weekly.

what the fish was doin was hanging verticle about 3 inches from the bottom of the tank head down.

I tried to up the salinity of their tanks gradual over a 2 month period and when I got the salinity to equal that of my sw I thought I would try them in my sw tank for a bit, they did not like it at all. They went totally sluggish and I removed them after less than 3/4 of a day and have since reduced the salinity back to brackish and they are much more active.

on this tank I am running a aquaclear hob 110 and a rena 3 for filter

my plan is that at my house I will run only sw and brackish and in my outshed/other local will be my fw, so I have a 65g and a 90g and a 55g i can convert to brackish if the agression takes place shortly I will make sure to keep an eye on it thanks for the heads up.

gonna have to look for these nerite snails you speak of

I took a few pics of the knight gobies and thought to post them. I am fixing to get 2 more 75-100g brackish tanks set up in the basement by the end of june so as to cut down on the population load on this tank. have not seen any agression but they are right now 5-7 inches were much smaller when I got them.

anyways here are the knight gobies
