Ok so i was thinking about putting a bunch of guppies in my 55Gal and letting them breed then eventually putting something in there to eat them would that be a good idea Or is that just a huge mess waiting to happen? I'm just trying to get some ideas without having amillion tanks setting around not to sound lazy by any means.

As long as the predator you put in there won't stuff itself to death on the guppies, I think it would be fine. Probably not a long term feeding solution unless the predator is really lazy, because the guppy population will be decimated

I have about 30 guppies of varying sizes in a 29G planted tank. I also have 3 cory cats in there as well. Due to an unforeseen event I had to relocate a peacock eel in this tank...It would nip the finage of my wifes fancy goldfish and go for rides! I have seen this eel hunt the baby guppies, which are a perfect size for him! I suplement his diet every week with a ball of frozen bloodworms, but he is in no way starving.

Eels are good because they aren't the the best hunters, but will probably do well to keep the population controlled. Bichir's are to aggressive, they would go for the bigger fish that would be the baby makers-soon there would be nothing breeding to maintain food levels.

Well i was actually thinking a pickerel or bull head and use my 55 until it gets bigger then move them to a bigger tank...or would either of them predators over eat themselves?

Something like thalassophryne amazonica could work in that setting.
