I came in to find Voodoo the bumblebee Cichlid scared to death, hiding out, and nipped up badly. I think the Mbunas have been savaging him between feedings.

I moved him out to a different tank with no predators so he can suffer in peace.

But he's unwell. I think his swim bladder and kidneys are gone. He appears to have some edema, and his swimming is wobbly.

If he makes it thru the night he might recover. I think chances are slim.

This was his baby photo, when I got him, 9-29-18

Sorry to hear. If it’s still alive. Try some Epsom salt 1 tbsp per 5g. Lower the water level. If it’s to the point of death and suffering then get some clove oil and let it pass.

Thank you Knoate. I did not give him Epsom salts but I did put him in a tank with a much higher mineral content in the water. Maybe that will help him pass the water.

I haven't looked at him yet this morning, and, well frankly I am hesitating to go view the corpse...

I have had a fish get this bad and recover before. I'm still holding out hope at this point.

He didn't survive the night.
Voodoo is now in the pet cemetary. RIP little fish.

This was all my fault. They were too crowded, and I've been delaying the bigger tank for too long. I'm setting it today, but it should have been weeks ago.

Here is Voodoo the Bumblebee, 3 mos ago, with his suspected killers. They're waiting outside the maternity ward where Leeloo is delivering.

She has blessed us with 7 healthy fry, and they will take Voodoo's place in the new tank.
