my 5 month old female albino burmese python freaks out every time i put her in water, she has been like it since i've had her and i've tried water temps from 20 to 26c and still the same, i would like to let her soak as its good for their skin but if i can't figure it out i guess i will just have to keep misting her viv twice a day

Not so much scared of water but scared of how she's introduced to it. If a snake goes into water on its own it will be at ease with it. Ive taken some of my snakes out of there water bowl and put them in a bath tub with identical water and they freak out.

I always found just putting them in wet pillow cases for a few hours once or twice a week would do the trick on there skin if I had difficulties soaking any of my snakes or lizards.

@Z Trip is this common with them then? i have tried putting her in the bath and very slowly filling it up but as soon as it gets about half way up her body she goes crazy looking for a way out, i can sometimes get part of her in the water for a few minutes if i let her perch on my arm but she soon starts climbing my arm to get out. she has a large water bowl and i have never seen her in it! beautiful snake in your avatar by the way, is it a retic?

@RMorrow thanks for the tip, do you prop it open to help them breath or can they get enough threw the fabric? and how do you maintain the warmth do you put them in it whike in the vivarium?

They breath just fine through the fabric. I typically just set them back in their enclosure in the middle between the warm and cool sides, kind of a happy medium. I am not saying it is fool proof but to date I have not had any issues after 30 yrs using this technique.

It's the placing them in the water that freaks them out. Like Z said, if they go in on their own they're fine. All of my snakes freak out when I place them in water but then I put the lid on their tubs and they're forced to just soak in it. The damp pillow case idea is also a good one. I've never used it myself but I've heard of others using it

from my experience this is all snakes. Both my ball python and my brazilian rainbow boa act this way. I just leave a large enough water bowl in the enclosure for them to fully submerge themselves and have had 0 issues. They know what they need so will go in to adjust for humidity, soak, etc. Only problem is mine like to poop in the water so changing every day is important.
