Hey guys... these are definitely not monster catfish, but it occurred to me someone might appreciate them. Was working for a wholesale distributor of FW fish and these came in as C. adolfi... the brown patch behind the gill plate makes them a different species (or at least a variant), currently undescribed by science, and given the C number (like plecos get L numbers) of 121.

I would say they are at least an uncommon species in the trade, bordering on rare. When you find them, they usually come in to the US on accident, as these did.

Thanks guys. If you like them I'd recommend Adolfi corys, they are much easier to find and pretty much the same. Minus the brown patch.

They could almost be a cousin to the Panda Cory's, don't you think? Cute little guy's as always. I just adore them. Thanks for sharing.

How'd the road trip go for you and JK47 yesterday?

Edit: What was the retail cost on the C121's or did you notice?

LOL thanks, not much of a road trip, he only lives about 20 min away. There are actually many corys that look similar to these...

Corydoras metae (bandit cory)

Corydoras davidsandi

Corydoras melini (false bandit cory)

The MOST similar, Corydoras adolfi (adolf corys, I like to call them hitler corys :) )

A pic of a C121 next to a young panda cory...

Panda corys stay much smaller than any of the above listed corys.

So I'm to understand the C121's are one of the giants in the Cory Doras family of fish? Are they about the same size as the Bronze Cory's? Or are the Panda's just the miget's in the family? And the retail cost of the C121's?

Looking at this photo, it leaves one to believe they are giants.

You two go shopping or just crusin' around looking at eye candy? (HUGE SMILE)

That pic is of a baby panda cory next to a fully grown c121 so it's not really fair, but pandas are small compared to most corys. They absolutely max out at 2" and don't get as fat as some other corys... you will read a lot of the corys I listed above max out a 2.5" but I'd say 3" is possible, as I've seen them that big myself. So another inch in a fish only a couple inches long is a big increase, I guess. They are still small fish, and some of the most interesting to watch in a tank. Mine pile in a corner and watch me watch tv, as they were doing in the first photo I posted.

Justin and I spent about 6 hours installing my 3D background in my 125, I am about to post a thread on it in the setup section, look out for it in about 20 minutes or so.

After communicating with you and Justin, the itch to move back to Portland is becoming stronger and stronger. I'd really like to see what you two have accomplished in person. 1,550 miles is a long way to go for a daily visit. I saw your post on your new background. Is it not similar to Justin's? It looks terrific in the preview you gave us.

Edit: Prior to moving to AZ back in Feb. 2000, I had a 55 gal tank with 8 Flag Tail (Corydoras robineae) and 8 Arched (Corydoras arcuatus). Great fish and very active during the entire day and a good part of the night.
