Okay well my canister filter just stopped have no idea what happened So my 180 is shut down temp. until i get christmad money i have 4 flowerhorns!! juvy real small like no more then and inch and a half to 2 inches and 2 small blood parrots in a 29 and a pleco like 6 inches! Will this be okay until christmad i have a penguin 330 and a cascade 300 i do a water change of about 10 to 20 percent everyday!

We might be able to help a bit more if we knew what type of filter your talking about and a little more about what happened. There's not much that can go wrong with most modern cannister filters that can't be fixed fairly quickly and inexpencivly.

I agree with Wolf. Give us more info about what went wrong, any noises, leaks, and the model of the filter, and we should be able to help you get it back up and running for very little.

rena filstart xp3

yeah it just stopped checked the suction or whatever and it just quit and i do not have an extra 200 right now to put into this and i am not going to set up my 55 again it is in storage let that cycle take another week you know and my blood parrots laid eggs and hatched in my 65 so i am kinda you know nailed to the wall on what to do!

The Renas might not be my favorite canister but other than occasionally breaking an impeller shaft they are quite reliable. What exactly happened to it? is the impeller turning at all? leaking? not holding prime?

it is not doing anything no sound coming from anywhere it's plugged in everything i have no idea but will my fish be okey in my 29 until christmas!!!!

Open the cannister and take a close look at the impeller. remove the cover and slide it out of the housing and take a look at the shaft it's rotating on. It should be in one piece... If not your looking at a 7.00 part....not a 200.00 replacement. This is a fairly common problem with Renas and usually happens when a large piece of debris gets past the intake screen and catches in the impeller blades...the shaft is made out of a ceramic material and can snap. If that happens the impeller can't turn.

The quicker you get the fish out of the 29 the better. If you only need to replace the impeller for your canister some LFS's carry replacement parts. A lot near me do. Or you could have one expressed to you for a cpl bucks more.

do you think the 180 would run all right on the penguin 330 and the cascade 300 for a few weeks I am flat brokw right now i have a2 year old and a new born you know and christmas is like around the corner
