I did not want to jack H.GEE's thread so I figured I would start my own. I noticed some of u were saying in his case it could heal and some were saying put it down. Wut do u think of my case. He just got done eating sum tilapia so atleast I know he's still eating. And he's not having trouble seeing. Even took a piece and swam off aggressively with it. Mostly does sit on the bottom ever since the transfer on Thursday night. There are pictures from yesterday in the media section and here's one from tonight. I'm really bummed about even thinking about putting him down. At the same time I do not want him in pain :(

Doesn't look really bad. Treat it with some TLC and hope for the best.
It may heal, it may not heal.

If you think its living a normal life than let it be. If it stops eating and moving than id do a lil chop.
Good luck I have gars and I fear this all the time.

It's tough to say he's living a "normal life", he's got a broken back. But I'd hate to make the decision if he can be recovered. I don't know if he's actually in pain but damn it looks it. I was never really into gars until a saw my friend mikes collection of these monsters, so I didn't even know this was kinda common. If there's been cases where recovery has happened I'll wait to see how it goes. But there's really not much I can do right? Besides make sure the water it great and keep feeding.

Personally, I would soak its food in some vitamins before feeding it. I use Waterlife's Vitazin which contains Vitamin D3, important for bone development. No idea about whether it aids in recovery or not as I never had a broken back gar.

Well that's awesome info. Where could I pick some of that up. Local grocery store? Would that be same for my ray and eel? I know they don't have much bone but just asking incase they scoop a piece up.

I doubt it will heal, but its pretty unlikely that your gar is in pain, fish tend not to be able to feel pain continuously over a long period of time.

damn bro u to. i feel ya. yours dosn't look as bad as mines, but a broken back is a broken back. good luck
