I have a clown kn and a african kn both about 7in long and they love to fight.
This mostly happens when the lights go off. They rarely go at it when the lights are on. My clown is leaving some decent cuts on the african and i dont want this to end up in a floater. is this normal ?????????

clown's gonna trash that african especially as it grows larger

but take some battlepics before you separate them!

they seem to be gettin better but,ya i probably will have to. I will try to get some fight pics but i have never posted pics before. i am a newbie at mfk.

Personally, I could do without any 'battle pics'. It is very common for species of 'knife fish' (whether Gymnotid, Notopterid, etc.) to be territorial, especially where other similarly-shaped fish are concerned. I do agree that you should separate the two fish (and preferrably as soon as possible before major damage is done). It is always a risky thing to keep more than one knife fish of any kind in an aquarium.

My clown knife Fights with anyone in the tank, even my marble cat. But its pretty much a territorial thing. atleast thats what I think.

Reefraymaster- I took your advice on adding more cover and they seep yo be gettin along alot better. I got some cool rocks and made some caves for them to hide in. We havnt had a scuffle since. Thanks 4 the great advice !guys :clap :headbang2

Pfft. Bastard. :p The cover thing was a good idea, I've kept them together before without any major problems in a 120 wide, but had LOADS of hiding places.

Now Joe... generalizing in this case is a dangerous thing. There are several schooling Gymnotiformes that do quite well together, and quite a few other species will get along alright together provided the aquarium is a larger one (200 + gallons). However, indeed, in many cases it is risky keeping them together...
