Yes, clown knifes are nocturnal, and shy at first.

CKs are nocturnal and it takes them awhile to get use to coming out when you want them to.

yes they do take some time, i have had one for over 2 months and he is not that shy, comes out during the day at feeding time and occationally just cruising around.
Then i got 2 new ones a few days ago and they dont move until after dark.

i have 2 cks's you just have to wait a couple months before they come out. my big ck is the least shyish in my tank! always in the front of the tank and up by me.
